The Frigidaire model FDF70s1 is very effective at removing moisture from our basement. It was running very frequently throughout the summer and fall because a fair amount of moisture finds its way through our brick walls -- fortunately, it's quiet operation did not pose a problem and our basement is the driest it has ever been in the last 20 years. The only problem we had was with installing it to use the hose connection to a drain so we would not need to monitor the bucket -- we found we needed to shim the unit on the side opposite the hose to get the water to drain toward the hose. Without the shim, some of the water would leak from the internal catch pan into the bucket before it could flow to the hose. Just having the shim in place to tip the unit slightly toward the hose side was enough to completely solve the problem.

Our greenhouse was suffering from 100% humidity. It just couldn't dry out due to a long streak of rainy days and little sun. Doors were swollen shut and mold was starting to form. We ran the dehumidifier for a day on Full and the difference was apparent. After that we've been running it at 70% humidity and the problem is completely cured.

The unit now cycles regularly, on low and is able to keep up with the 240 sq ft greenhouse easily. The unit is not quiet, the blower is quite powerful. But it is not intolerable either. The controls are very easy to set and use. About the only gripe we have is that the water bucket is awkward to remove. I thought of putting a hose into the greenhouse floor drain, but like using the unit's water collection to rewater the plants. It makes a nice closed loop system.

I use this for my entire house, i have a home built in 1913 with original single paned stained glass windows - due to the temperature changes we had tons of moisture that was causing mold, to change the windows would actually lower the value of our home- this was our solution and it works great for what we need it for- no more condensation on our windows and the mold/mildew is now gone. I use this dehumidifier in a basement that has intermittent water intrusion from one wall. (The fix requires landscaping and that will have to wait for Spring.) It ran continuously for about a day and has kept not just the room, but the entire basement at the selected humidity setting thereafter. It isn't silent in operation, but the high air volume movement and obvious results make it a welcome addition. We have it in a small room right next to our TV & stereo and it doesn't cause any problem.

My basement needed drying out. Not that I had alot of moisture but, there was some. I was getting ready to put sealer on the concrete block and needed a way to dry it our. I plugged the unit in and in about 4 days all the moisture was gone.

I am using it in a 1200 sq ft house. I have it in a centrally located area. I have 3 small fans blowing the air in the direction of the dehumidifier. As with probably any dehumidifier the warmer the temperature is the faster it will work. I noticed when the unoccupied house was cool in the winter, 45 to 50 deg, the appliance ran more then when I heated it 60 deg. Now that I have the house rented and the heat turned up, the humidity stays lower and the dehumidifier isn't at work as much and keeping the house at a lower humidity. With the fan on high it maybe a little noisy in a bedroom if your a light sleeper that likes it quiet. The house smells and feels more comfortable after using it for a few days.

Great Dehumidifier! Been using continuously for over 6 months in a leaky basement (mainly when it rains). Results have exceeded my expectations. Basement (mid-size, open, unfinished) becomes dry as a bone in no time. The auto shut off when the bucket is full works great as well. No problems. The only issue I have with it is that the bucket can sometimes be difficult to remove to empty, but not a big deal concerning the results. Some may say that's it's noisy, but not an issue for me. Would definitely recommend!

First off, I'm a well seasoned mechanical engineer. We live in wetlands, so our house is quite damp. So damp we need to dehumidify in the winter to prevent condensation on our windows.I gave it 5 stars even though nothing is perfect. It could have been free, it could be feather light, it could be silent.I have had this for about a month now. This thing cranks. Very effective dehumidification. Pulls humidity down to 35%. Humidistat is accurate. Absolutely no icing. Bucket works as good as can be expected (it is better than my older Kenmore unit). Hose hook-up works great. ([...] has a dehumidifier hose for $4 that works well. I did need pliers to get the connection tight enough.) I like the multiple handles to aid lifting (2 handholds on the sides and one on top).I hope it keeps this up for years. If so, its a winner.I'd buy it again, no question.

Really hard to pick from the pros and cons from the list as this is a new product around here. It certainly seems to be doing the job, and I'm not sure off hand what size fan it's got in it but it's very powerful. It's used in the basement so noise or it being "light weight" isn't a concern. As far as people having problems getting the water drawer out, they have to be idiots. Slight pressure used on each side allows the drawer to easily slide out, and at this time, that's all I use. I haven't hooked it up to a dedicated drain line yet. So far I like it. The product feels good and well built and is very easy to clean if need be.

We have a damp basement and had a dehumidifier since we moved in 13 years ago. The new dehumidifier has been working for two weeks. I don't anticipate any problems. Its working well and really pulls the moisture out of the air. The fan speeds are high and are a little noisy but with a compact design you have to sacrifice something. The noise isn't that bad and doesn't bother us upstairs. If you have a finished basement and are entertaining you could just put it on low fan and that should be fine. It has some nice features like a clean filter light and humidity reading LED display. It has two bucket full lights and auto turn off. You can set it up to drain continuously. You can set the humidity setting or just let it run continuously. My rating is based on the short period of time we have had it.

This unit is very effective. I knocked it down a couple of stars due to a few obnoxious features.

First, as others have said, the fan is indeed loud, but i guess that's part of the came. What bugs me more is the fact that when you set a particular humidity %, it will repeatedly cycle on and off within minutes. If your house is big enough that you won't be able to hear it from where you hang out, not a problem. If, like our small house, you can hear it even in the basement, its obnoxious.

The other feature that bugs me is the water bucket: it's top is covered in plastic. This might help prevent sloshing, but it makes it so you can't get into it to wipe it out w/o getting a screw-driver. We've had mold develop in the pan and its a hard to get to for cleaning.

Haven't used the hose attachment, but it appears well designed. Filter is easy to access/clean.

PROS:
Quiet compared to other models I have owned. Humidity setting with auto shutoff, continuous setting, and timed run-time are nice options. Two-speed fan is also nice when you're wanting to move a lot of moist air through the unit quickly.

Rollers allow for easy movement of the unit.

Compressor kick-in is quiet, much quieter than units I have owned prior.

CONS:
Hose connection for continuous draining is slightly difficult to get to. You should avoid 1/2" hoses and go with 5/8" or larger to avoid back-pressure that could cause the water to drain into the pan instead of down the hose.

Water pan has a snug fit. Takes a bit of hand-strength to pop it lose from the unit for draining. Emptying it is a bit awkward -- over-tipping the pan will have water pouring out from multiple sides.

I have 2 GE's and Danby and this Frigidaire. The Frigidaire really pulls down the humidity better than the others. its a nice unit. the only thing that is a problem for me is the Filter timer. On the frigidaire when the unit operates for 250 hours it shuts off!!!!! I have it set up with a continuous drain and I leave for 2 months..so this doesn't work. it shuts off. The others I have have a warning light that tells you to clean the filter after 250 hours..but they keep running. So if you are checking the unit every day.. this ones for you.. if you want to go away for a month.. buy a GE its the next best one in my opinion.

I bought this because my basement was so humid and mold was forming from it. I read soooo many reviews for different humidifiers and this one seemed to be the best and it is, I LOVE it!! I noticed a huge difference in a few days. And it's not really loud like others claim... I put it in my basement and hear nothing. If you were to use it in living space of course you would have to turn your t.v. up, but not as loud as other reviews said. The water pan is a little hard to pull out. Make sure you pull both sides at the same time, pulling one side doesn't do it. Other than that I totally recommend this if you want to get rid of humidity. Good luck!!

We bought this dehumidifier specifically for our basement. We liked that it was made for lower temperatures. As other reviews have said, it is on the noisy side, but because it is in our basement, that isn't an issue for us. My husband was able to hook up some PVC pipe to the unit so it drains directly into my laundry room sink, rather than having to empty the water out of it every day or so. This is a great Dehumidifier. We use it in our very humid/damp basement and it has effectively removed moisture and helped to eliminate dank odor. It is not small and not quiet however...no problem in out large basement, but I would not want this thing in my bedroom. I like that it is energy star rated and that it can have a hose attached to drain continuously to a sump pump, although we haven't use that feature yet. The bucket is easy to remove and reinstall, the controls are easy to use and understand.

We use this item to take our fully furnished basement (TV Room, Play Room and Bed Room with Bath and landry room) to reduce the 50% humidity to 35% humidity.

Keep in mind, the bulk of the noise is the power of the internal fan, so this unit has the ability to hand the 900 square basement, however the fan is LOUD. So find a place the unit doesn't disturb the other sections of the basement.

We bought a garden hose and cut it to length, to drain into the floor drain 20 feet away. So the unit is working 24/7. When you buy a garden hose, just remember to use a basic connector hose, in order to fit through the side of the unit and connect it to the male connector inside the unit.

Besides it being loud, I wish the unit had a timer that you could set to power up and down at certain times...the current timer allows you to set a length of time as a count down timer.

I have a very moist basement with a serious mold problem. I bought this to reduce the moisture. This dehumidifier does just that. Before I bought this dehumidifier the relative humidity was always around 75%. Within 24 hours of using this dehumidifier the humidifity had dropped to around 35%. The bucket fills itself about every 24 hours, but I have attached a hose so that it just empties into a drain (great feature). Now it is kinda noisy and turns on and off, but for me I will never notice because it is in the basement!

Attaching a hose to circumvent the need to take out the water pan--difficult at best--took some Googling to accomplish. So here are tricks that worked: Buy and install an extra washer in the female end of the hose. Get gravity to help things out by placing the unit on a table. There is some misinformation out there on this product and as a potential buyer at the time I had a little trouble sorting it out. I will do my best to give you all the info you need.

"Is it quiet?" You have to understand what you think is quiet, may not be for someone else! I feel this dehumidifier sits right in the middle. I have it in my living room, and if I want to watch TV, then I will turn it off. Otherwise I leave it on. Most people will have it in the basement so it's not a problem. It's best described as a loud fan and could be annoying to some if it's right in a common area. You have to understand that what this machine is doing for you is probably much more important than white noise.

"Which model should you get?" This is the common mistake people are making. For some reason people are thinking the difference between the two models is how much it can hold. I read someone's review about the "Glad I got the 70 pint container" THIS IS FALSE! There is a 50pint, and 70pint version. BOTH have a 17 PINT container. It's the same size container for both models! The difference is one can remove more per day than the other. I have to say if you are removing more than 50 pints per day you have some problems! If you had the 70 pint version and were actually drawing 70 pints per day, you would be dumping 4.2 full buckets per day. I feel the 50 pint is more than sufficient in 99% of cases, and is much easier to find (best buy, lowes, etc...) I was considering ordering it online, but I needed it asap so went with a local vendor at a higher price.

"I read it's turning on and off constantly" I have noticed that mine will do this. Not as bad as some have said, but I think the problem is the exhaust (dry) air that has been processed is being circulated back into the intake. By placing the machine on the left hand side of a wall with an unobstructed flow of dry air, you will decrease this issue. If this bothers you too much, use it every other day.

"I read the bucket is hard to empty." It's actually easy to remove. Just push the sides in as you unhook the bucket. Not sure why people think it's hard. What could be improved is creating a spout to dump the water as it's a little unclear which side you are supposed to dump from (although the instructions show you) Overall this IS a little awkward because of handle position and weight distribution. It doesn't sit square on the floor. A great improvement would be wheels on the bucket to roll out of the machine. It's a non issue for me though.

"Does it blow hot air?" Some say it does, but mine does not. I would almost say it's cool air, but I think it's just because it's a fan blowing, and I do run it constantly.

Hope this helps you out. I've had this machine for about a month now and it's great. I live near the ocean, and I collect firearms and lots of vintage items, and after a small mold issue I had enough and bought this locally (50 pint version). I am amazed at how much water I am removing from the air. Your house will feel cooler in the summer due to lower humidity, but should also feel warmer in the winter.

We recently had quite a lot of rain here in GA and our old dehumidifier just could not keep up. All of the local stores were sold out due to the wide spread flooding, but we were able to order this Frigidaire and it arrived very quickly. We have been very pleased with it's performance. When our old dehumidifer finally stopped working, I did a lot of research into which model to buy. Overall, the reviews were discouraging, as it appears that dehumidifiers can often be unreliable/undependable.

After much reading, it appeared that Frigidaire Model FDF70S1 was the most reliable, as well as being reasonably-priced for a large-capacity dehumidifier. We purchased one about 3 months ago, and a second one a week or two ago. (Our large basement has two sections - one finished, and one unfinished, but we had been running just one older unit, from our previous, smaller home.)

We noticed a definite difference in the temperature and smell of our basement rec room within a couple of days of running the unit on "Continuous" (see below.) The room was so chilly, that it was actually unpleasant to spend time in, but now, it's quite pleasant, what with the drier air feeling warmer. The unit also pumps out some warm air (which is a benefit, in our case.)

Compared to our older, more modest unit, (as well as compared to other current models), this model has tons of great features! First of all, many current units require the owner to drill a hole in a plastic spout in order to attach a hose. Once drilled, there's no going back if the hose doesn't work out. This unit allows the user to run a hose from a special port, with no drilling required. Better yet, if there is a bad connection, the hose will drain right into the collection bucket (stopping the unit when it is full), rather than dripping out onto the floor.

The water bucket pops right out, even when the machine is "on" (not running, but powered-on.) Our old unit required the user to turn the unit off before removing the bucket, and then have to turn the unit back on.

The unit has multiple settings, including High and Low fan speeds, as well as a continuous setting that will keep the unit running, regardless of how the humidity in the room compares to the humidity setting. The instructions recommended running the unit on Continuous the first couple of days, which worked well for us.

Another great feature is an electronic filter reminder that blinks on after a certain number of hours of use. This is a really, really convenient way to remember this very important bit of maintenance! (We just had to remember to do it on our old unit, and as a result, we rarely did it.)

The unit also shows a current humidity reading, which is a nice feature. I also understand that it will operate under colder conditions than we have, as well. (Apparently, other units can stop working when they get very cold.) There is also a Timer function, as well (which we don't use.) Another nice feature is that the unit is EnergyStar rated, so we feel more confident that it isn't an "energy hog."

The only negatives that I can think of are as follows: the bucket has a convenient handle, but it is open on part of the top, so it can spill-over while being removed from the unit and/or transported to the sink. Some owners have also reported that it is noisy. This isn't an issue for us, since it is not in an area of our home where we are living non-stop.

A family member who spends more time in the room also reports that it can sometimes cycle on and off somewhat frequently. But, if it is an annoyance, it can always be turned onto the Continuous setting, temporarily turned off, or have its settings changed up or down. (Perhaps this is what the Timer setting is for.)

Anyway, I have taken the time to write this lengthy review because I feel very strongly that this is a great product, and I appreciated other people's reviews to make my decision. I have already recommended the unit to a friend!

I set this dehumidifier up in my basement. It is quieter than the previous unit I had, even on the high fan setting, and it seems to remove quite a bit of water.
I had read some reviews that said it was too noisy for a sleeping area. This may be true, but it's probably a lot less noisy than most units. I also read a complaint about it cycling on and off too frequently. I find that it is very reasonable in this regard. Another review claimed that the fan keeps running, even when the compressor turns off. This almost kept me from buying the unit, for fear of the fan burning out. However, the fan does turn off along with the compressor when the desired humidity level is achieved, so no problem there.
I have it connected to a drain hose, which I consider a "must", because the bucket fills very quickly, even though it is quite large. Since I don't have a floor drain available, I purchased a small water pump separately. The hose drains to the pump which, when full, pumps the water to a nearby sink. I never need to empty the bucket. I've only had the unit for about three weeks, but it is doing an excellent job so far!

We had mold issues in our basement and within a couple of days of setting up the dehumidifier, before we even had a chance to clean up the existing mold, the smell improved dramatically. It is a huge relief to have a dry basement. We should have done this two years ago when we bought the house, but we were rookies. I can't speak to the longevity of this machine because we've only had it a few weeks, but so far I'm very satisfied. I don't notice the sound and we attached a hose to drain it into the sink for continuous operation.

I use this dehumidifier mainly for the bathroom. It absorbs around 20-25% humidity per hour (based on my observation), and so I think it's quite effective and efficient. However, it's a little bit noisy, and that's why I give it four stars.

Compared to others I have owned, this unit is relatively quiet. It is used in an unfinished basement and works well, if a little slow. The water pan is a bit awkward to handle. Since I don't have a place to allow it to drain into, I need to empty the bucket daily, and it fills a bit too much to make for easy handling without a little splash here and there. This is a bit of a nuisance but it's not terrible once you get the hang of it. Overall I am satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it.

Many entries have been made about the water pan being difficult to remove. I have not had an issue with it. You simply squeeze the sides of the pan, it clicks free, and you pull it out. Replacing is a matter of sliding it into place until it clicks into position. The only noise the unit makes is the usual fan noise, which is expected. That being said, it is very quiet as you do not hear the compressor cycling at all.

I did a lot of research online and read a lot of reviews on this dehumidifier. The price, including shipping, was cheaper through rainbow appliance than anywhere else so I placed the order. I was replacing a goldstar 50 pint dehumidified that died after two years, which was good because it sounded like I had a construction crew working in my basement. I have had the frigidaire dehumidifier for about three weeks now and I am impressed. It is very quite, easy to empty, and easy to operate. Our unfinished Georgia basement has been slightly damp and humid since we moved into our home. I had considered getting a dehumidifier for some time. After much research (I tend to over-analyze), I decided this was THE model to get, and Rainbow Appliance was THE place to get it. I have not been disappointed. I wish I had purchased it long ago. The air is so much better now.

This unit is smartly designed including the packaging. It was very easy to unpack and set-up. The manual is easy to follow. I do wish it included information about recommended humidity levels. The unit is also super easy to empty although it fills very often -- initially 1-2 times per day, so I wish it had a larger tank and would constantly alarm when full to better attract my attention. (Maybe I should have bought the 70 pt.) I solved that problem by running a short hose from it to the air conditioner condensation pump so I no longer have to empty it at all! The unit is attractive and easy to move around.

We are very pleased with this little dehumidifier. It pulled moisture out of our basement non-stop for 3 days, then we moved it to a maintenance setting. I use this in my garden level apartment. My bedroom was so damp some clothes were ruined by mold and I decided I HAD to get a dehumidifier. This one got the best reviews and was the best price so I gave it a try. After about 4 days of constant running my bedroom and all the other rooms in my place were totally dry. This product works as described. It has been running in my basement for about 3 weeks now. I had a very musty basement and after following the instructions and about 6 water buckets later, my basement is free from the basement smell and feel.
I have since hooked up the auto drain to my a/c pump and its been working great. My only compliant would be I wished the drainage connection was a bit higher in the unit. The hose needs to be below the opening which means I cannot move the unit around to much once its hook up. I would recommend this product.

This made my basement livable again. It is not a quiet unit, but I don't know any room units that are. There is a built in timer to shut the unit on and off during certain times of the day. I set the timer on this unit to shut of whenThis unit keeps my 1200 sf basement very dry and cozy. I cannot really comment on the quality of the unit as I have not had the unit that long. If it last more than two years I will consider it good quality.

The design is very nice. I like the built in handle on top which makes the unit very portable.

It has an outlet to hook up a hose to port to a condensate pump. I would strongly recommend this so you do not have to empty the bucket out constantly. This unit really works well and in a matter of 6 hours it dropped the humidity in my basement from 80% to 35%. I ran it constant for 3 days straight as was suggested in the manual. It felt like a desert in my basement. I then leave the unit on 50% humidity and that is very comfortable.

Of course, if you have standing water in your basement, a dehumidifier will not cure that problem.

I had a humid basement which got worse during the summer. It got some quite serious mold problem with bad smells. I also got very bad skin irritations with extremely itchy skins. Eventually I decided to buy a dehumidifier to reclaim my basement where I used to set my home office. Frigidaire dehumidifier got one of the best reviews on line, that was why I bought it (70 pint one) about two weeks ago. I was immediately amazed how effective this thing is. I got on average a full bucket of water everyday from my basement. The humidity drops from at least 85% to 65% which is what I set. Unlike what some others have said repeated starting/stopping for this machine, mine has no such problem at all. I set 65%, the machine starts at 70% and stops at 60%. So it works only a small portion of the time. The noise is acceptable for me because I put it in the basement and it is not on most of the time. The construction of the product seems quite good for me and it is very easy to use. Now my skin irritation is basically all gone! All in all, I am very satisfied with this product.

The dehumidifier is easy to roll from one room to another. It has an automatic shut off when it reaches the level you set. It is easy to empty. It does make some noise but we move it from room to room. It is very quick at removing the humidity in the area it is in. The 50 is quieter than the 75 and works just as good if not better.

Have this in my finished, yet musty and damp basement. Does a great job of what it's there for- dehumidifying. The humidity sensor setting does what it seems like most other write-ups for dehumidifiers do- turns off when appropriate and then cycles on and off again often for a while as the level varies by some tiny percentage. The exhaust fan blows some pretty warm air, so make sure you have a way to keep the air circulating or it can raise the temperature in the room easily, while at least making it more of a dry heat... I use a hose to drain to the sink, but still have to empty the bucket relatively often. not really sure if the hose doesn't have a great seal or the angle on it is bad or there is a leak at the machine, but not enough of a problem to bother me too much to spend time investigating. It's a nice piece of equipment, not perfect, but effective and has some good features. Worth a purchase.

I looked around quite a bit for a dehumidifier for my dank and musty 1,800 sf basement. I almost decided to go the most expensive route and get a Santa Fe or Aprilaire dehumidifier that cost over $1,300. But based on some really good on line reviews, I decided to give this one a chance. Had it for about two weeks now, and I have no regrets. For a little over [...], I have been able to bring the humidity levels in my basement to about 45% with ease. I was a bit concerned about the noise before buying it, based on a lot of comments on that subject, but since the unit sits in my basement, I dont even hear it. I was able to easily hook up a garden hose to it and run the condensate into my basement sump and so I dont even need to empty the bucket any more. I had to do that twice a day initially when I set it up and it was getting a bit inconvenient. I would strongly recommend using the hose option if you are really looking for a very effecient operation. So far, I have had no regrets getting this unit. Based on my next electricity bill, I may choose to go for a second unit, just so that it doesnt have to run all the time.

I have the 70 pint model and love the way it works. You set the humidity level you want to keep and that is all you do. I used the optional hose adapter and set mine on continuous. It monitors the humidity and turns on and off as necessary to maintain that level of humidity. I did have to shop for and buy a hose that would fit through the opening to connect to the dehumidifier. Recommended!!

This one unit does our +/- 1,000 SF basement area. It was able to bring the humidity down to 50% (from approximately 80-90%) in the first three hours and now holds it there easily. The unit itself is fairly quiet but the fan is very powerful and thus makes a lot of air noise. The compressor is barely audible. The only con is that the water pan has an odd shaped bottom. When the pan is full and you slide it out of the unit, if you forget to hold the sides it tips backward and spills some of its contents. This is avoidable with the direct drain attachment. Once you realize the flaw you learn to hold the pan so that it doesn't spill. Aside from this minor flow the unit is awesome. Don;t waste your time with any of the others Like I have. Just by this or the 50-pint model and be done.

I've only had it for about a month but so far this dehumidifier has done the job. I read in the reviews that it is considered fairly noisy; I have it in a basement so I'm not right next to it, but for rooms like that it's perfect, I don't hear it anywhere else in the house. One really great perk is that it resets to your previous settings after a loss of power.

Nicely designed unit - two speed fan, digital humidity readout, if you hookup to a drain, it does not require forming a hole in the drain pan. So, you can convert back to pan use which requires empting pan on regular basis. I was expecting operation to be loud from other comments I have seen. I did not find the fan noise objectionable, even when on high speed. Pan removal is no biggie. Have to pull from both sides evenly to remove. I now have this 70 pinter hooked up to a drain because I was emptying the bucket at least once a day. I had a Kenmore and a DeLonghi before this one. They both died. The DeLonghi did not last long and as terrible parts availabiity. I liked this unit so much I bought the 50 pint version for use in another part of my basement. I highly recommend.

I did some research before buying this unit, and everything that I had read was true. The unit works very well at getting moisture out of our basement, but the fan runs constantly, and it pushes out warm air. I use the dehumidifier in my basement and it does keep it very dry but if it is not connected by water hose (which you need to purchase) to a sump you must change the pan everyday with summer humidity (in Northeast anyway) It is not quiet but fine for basement use. My only problem is with the water pan is a little bit hard to pull out from the machine.

We have always had a wet/damp basement. We ordered this baby and our troubles are fading away. We were emptying the water pan two or three times a day, so we put the unit up on a shelf and attached a piece of hose. It now drains into a sink and we don't have to empty it. It is amazing, wish I'd purchased this years ago.

Oh, and it doesn't freeze up like some do - its really made to work in a basement....very cool.

I love it so much I told my Dad and Mother-in-law to buy one!! This unit isn't judged yet on consumer reports, and I was a little nervous purchasing it, but it beats all my expectations!!

Only problem I have, and I think its a problem with all dehumidifiers, is the drawer/water pan. Its awkward, but gets easier once you get the hang of it....

This unit ROCKS!! Its a lifesaver...maybe we can actually use our basement now...

Great product. Humid air intake is in the front of the unit, dry air exhaust is on the side so the unit doesn't have to sit a foot away from a wall. Powerful but still relatively quiet. Perfect for a mid-size damp basement!

We had a dampness problem in our basement and mold was growing. 1 day with the humidifier on took care of the issue. The 70 pint water basin is about as big as they come, but it's still not enough for running the dehumidifier for anything over 8 hours. It would have been nice if the device came with a short drain hose so we could drain it into a 5 gallon pail, but that's a small complaint. If you plan on sleeping next to the device, it's a little noisy. But if you're used to sleeping with the air conditioner on, it's a comparable sound (not too bad). The price was great and we don't have to worry about dampness issues in the basement anymore.

I HAD a basement that had musty odors, but after running this machine i was able to reduce humidity from around 80% to now 40%, and it has reduced the musty odor dramatically. i was emptying the bucket around twice a day, and the bucket was easy to remove and dump into my utility sink. i recently switched to hose drainage and it is still working great. it is in my basement and i can't hear it upstairs unless the door is open, and only faintly. great product and i would recommend to anyone.

I have had multiple models of dehumidifiers in recent years. Whirlpool's dies after a year and a half. Kenmore's motor stopped after just over a year, compressor stopped the following (after I got motor repaired). The compressors seem to just give out after not-all-that-long. The Frigidaire is still too new to speak to long-term durability, but works great for now, and is a lot quieter than the noisy Kenmore it replaced.

This product is used in a damp basement that is used for storage. It is a quiet machine and I would recommend it for its quietness over the Whirlpool Dehumidifier. The filled pan is slightly difficult to remove and the contents can spill. This is not an issue for me because there is no carpeting on the basement floor and I have the unit empty directly into a drain.
