We bought it to replace a range hood that just wouldn't keep up with the smoke from our stove's center grill when grilling steaks or fajitas. I installed it myself -- a bit of a chore since the thing is heavy with two motors! When we turned it on we thought we were disappointed, since it just didn't SOUND very powerful. Okay, it's quiet. That's a plus!

The acid test came a week later when my wife grilled fajitas. In the past, even with our old hood roaring at full power, the house would have a smokey haze and the smell of grilled meat would linger for a day or two. This time, when she was finished, there was no haze and almost no aroma. The typhoon just does its job quietly and efficiently.

It's elegant in appearance, and the self-cleaning feature is SO much better than the old unit's "dishwasher-safe" metal mesh filters.

Yes, it's pricey. But in this case, we got what we paid for.
