This is the most powerful vacuum I have ever owned. The suction was so strong that even my carpet thanks me for buying this vacuum. We do not have pets but can only imagine how perfect it would be for a household that does. The power head swivels and is so easy to use, like a dream vacuum. I did discover that it does not use the same vacuum bags as my prior Oxygen which is still running. I just needed another vacuum for upstairs cleaning and could not beat the price for the 2010 model at Rainbow Appliance. [...] No, I do not work for Rainbow Appliance but will certainly shop here again. By the way, this vacuum is more powerful than the prior model which we bought several years ago. I love this vacuum!!!!

The EL6988E is much improved from the EL6988D. The issues that some users had with the power tool has been addressed.

The power head has been improved and is more durable.
It looks much nicer also.

Within a month of purchasing, the plastic piece that holds the powerhead to the arm broke off and was sucked into oblivion. Warranty covered the repair, thankfully. Also, the bag full light doesn't work and the bag is extremely difficult to remove if full. I paid about [$] for the machine with several discounts and it was barely worth it.

I am a big fan of canister vacuums, but to be really useful they need to have all the tools on board. This only has two of the four so it really limits your efficiency and flexibility when vacuuming.

The manual needs more information. For example, I lost suction to my powerhead. I first checked my manual and it only contains two troubleshooting ideas: vacuum cleaner doesn't run; it gets wet. Neither applied. I called Elextrolux to see if they could help me. The representative was very pleasant but perplexed. She was willing to send what she thought could be the problem at no charge. When I hung up, I turned the powerhead over to see if I could possibly get it going again; and to my amazement I spotted a tiny reset button. I pushed it and the powerhead worked again! I canceled the replacement part and was unable to talk with the same rep. I hung up thinking that the rep who cancelled the order could care less about my input. The manual should include a trouble shoot that says powerhead doesn't suction. And I'm not even sure the manual addresses the reset button at all. All these comments are referring directly to what Elextrolux could do to improve the product. [...]. Thank you.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT EVEN THOUGH CONSUMER REPORTS RATED IT HIGH BECAUSE THERE IS A FLAW. ONE MONTH AFTER BUYING IT A SMALL PLASTIC PIECE BROKE IN THE NECK OF THE POWER NOZZLE SO THAT THE WAND WON'T STAY ATTACHED. THE ELECTROLUX REPAIR SHOP SAID THEY HAD SEEN A NUMBER OF THESE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. AT THIS POINT THEY HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET A NEW PART OR JUST REPLACE THE WHOLE POWER NOZZLE BUT THESE HAVE BEEN ON BACK ORDER. SO IT WORKS FINE ON BARE FLOORS AND FURNITURE WHICH IS THE BULK OF OUR NEED BUT WE HAVE A LOANER VACUUM FROM THE REPAIR STORE WE HAVE TO USE FOR OUR CARPET AND RUGS. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH THE COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE WHO ASSURES ME THAT THE PART WILL BE SOON AVAILABLE BUT IF I AM ABLE TO GET A FULL REFUND I WILL BUY ANOTHER BRAND.

I have an equal amount of carpet/hardwood floors in my house. Powerful suction, too powerful in some situations, would be nice if the suction was adjustable. The floor tool is too big, needs to be redesigned. Seems to push dirt around rather than suck it up. Nozzle and small brush storage in handle is handy however it would be nice to have on board storage for everything. Very lightweight and compact. Does a great job with carpets.

I love the canister, as I can get under furniture and into corners with it. I love the carpet attachment: it really gets up the pet fur. I love the hard-floor attachment. It's wide and flexible, and can reach into corners.

The only thing I don't like so far is that the carpet attachment doesn't flex as much sideways as I would like.

This is a great vacuum the only better vacuum would be central vacuuming. I have a large dog that sheds alot and this vacuum is the first to actually pick up all the hair even on his dog bed. The only con is that the vacuum got stinky after picking up so much dog hair but after changing the bag it was sentless again. It works great on hardwood and carpet ssssuuuperrrr suction power almost scary (don't get your curtains caught or it will most likely rip the rod holding the curtains off the wall) Yikes

This vacuum cleaner works fine. The only negative is that the pipe came apart from the power head and had to be put back together. The clip that holds it together is made of plastic. I hope it doesn't break in the future, as replacement may be an inconvience. Besides this one event, I am very happy with the purchase.

The wand has a cheap plastic c clamp that holds the wand onto the motorized brush head. This keeps popping off. I hand to use wire to hold it in place. Be carefull when reconnecting all wand parts, you may bend elcectrical prongs.They look like they break easy. The Vacuum works great, the parts are cheaply made.It does pick up dog hair, and is light to carry.
